About the Artist

Tiina Seppäläinen
Luminous Landscapes: A Watercolor Journey
Tiina is a landscape artist based in California whose work is influenced by her Finnish heritage and a lifelong connection to nature. Born and raised in Finland, Tiina spent her childhood exploring the beauty of a land rich with lakes, rivers, and the Baltic Sea. This early immersion fostered a deep affinity with nature, which continues to be a central theme in her artwork.
Tiina's artistic journey began in drawing and evolved over decades of experimentation with various mediums, including charcoal, pastels, ink, and acrylics. More recently, the fluidity and unpredictability of watercolors have captured her heart. This medium allows her to explore the subtleties of textures, shadows, and hidden colors, creating luminous dreamscapes that evoke nature's healing power. Tiina's work is characterized by transparent pigments and soft brushstrokes.
Her paintings depict landscapes from the Central Coast of California and the Big Island of Hawaii, two places she calls home. Tiina’s work reflects her deep connection to these environments, telling stories of how humans interact with the natural world. Influenced by the Impressionists, her style invites viewers to pause and appreciate the intricate beauty of their surroundings.
Balancing a long career in technology with her passion for art, Tiina's artistic focus intensified after her retirement. The COVID pandemic's isolation reignited her dedication to painting, transforming a lifelong hobby into a semi-professional pursuit. Tiina is now a member of several art organizations, including the Santa Cruz Art League. She volunteers with local art centers and donates her artwork for their fundraising activities.
Tiina's work evokes beauty and harmony, encouraging viewers to connect deeply with nature. Her paintings have been exhibited in group shows and art events, resonating with collectors who feel connected to her serene landscapes. Through her art, Tiina hopes to inspire others to look more closely at the world around them and find solace in the details of everyday life.
