Bird's Eye View

Standing on the bluff above New Brighton Beach, you can see much of Monterey Bay in all directions. Looking west, the most notable landmark is the Capitola wharf. In front of Capitola Village, surfers gather in the mornings waiting for the perfect wave. Rocky cliffs tower above the water and gentle waves roll across the bay towards the beach.

This 8" x 16" artwork was painted on location during the Capitola Plein Air event, as the morning sun illuminated the coastline. The watercolor is protected by several coats of archival UV spray and a cold wax finish on top. Water-soluble oils were used to highlight key features of the scene.  The painting is mounted on a birchwood panel and framed in a brown woodgrain floating frame.
