Rain Or Shine

Painted on location during the 2025 Capitola Plein Air event, this watercolor captures a fleeting moment along the Esplanade in between passing rain showers.  On this day, the sky was constantly shifting. Bits of sunshine were breaking through layers of gray clouds and showers drifted above the mountains on the other side of Monterey Bay. 

I set up my easel looking out to the ocean, hoping for the rain to stop. Luckily, there was a break in the weather, allowing enough time to capture the sunny glow above the ocean and a bit of blue sky peeking through the stormy weather. Then the next band of rain rolled in, so I had to wrap up my painting and supplies in a hurry.  Later in the studio,  the finishing touches were added to this watercolor seascape.
