This plein air work was painted by a hillside in the quaint village of Busquistar, in the Alpujarras Mountains of Spain. It was a hot sunny day and our initial painting spot had no shade. It was necessary to work quickly on my sketch, after which I retreated into a shady spot. From there, I could still see the mountains and part of the village, while taking my time to paint without the pigments drying too fast. The painting features several whitewashed houses with their slate roofs and unique chimneys - from a certain angle, they look like ghosts or people wearing cowboy hats! At an elevation of 3600 feet, this is a popular area for hiking by the Sierra Nevada national park.
This painting comes unframed. It's painted on high quality cold-pressed 100% cotton watercolor paper.
